What happens when you put 2 drops of Nasya Oil in your Nose?

NASYA BENEFITS

First let us know what Nasya basically is and how and when you can do Nasya therapy. In many ways breath is life, how different would our life be if our breath was stable, relaxed, more fluid, less disturbed by congestion, cough, stress and anxiety. Most of us can relate to the panic we experience when we cannot catch our breath for some or the other reason. Inadequate respiration is a real threat leading to various health issues, so when we are not able to breathe properly survival instincts kick in immediately. This has a significant impact on the overall health. Ayurveda believes in making each breath long and deep which increases longevity of life. Cleaning and protecting the breathing passages, primarily the nostrils, helps in improving the quality of each breath we take. Healthy and uncongested breathing is vey important to ensure proper flow of Prana, the lifeforce throughout the head and the body. Nose is one such organ which is the direct root to the brain, it is the doorway to consciousness, it is the entrance of Prana (the lifeforce) which comes through breathing, an excess bodily fluid accumulating in the sinus, throat or head area can be best eliminated through the nasal root. The administration of herbal infused juices, oil, ghrita and decoction through the nasal root is called as Nasya. It soothes the nasal passages and helps in relieving stress and has a lot of health benefits. It balances all the 3 Doshas; Vatta, Pitta and Kapha. Nasya is traditionally said to improve the quality of your voice, strengthen vision and improve mental health.

Here is a simple method to follow for self-administration of Nasya.

METHOD :-

Comfortably lie down on a bed with your head hanging on the edge of the bed and tilting backwards. Or you can simply lie down and keep a pillow under your neck. Begin with massaging your face with Kumkumadi Oil, this oil contains Kesar which gives us a skin glowing effect, improves complexion and helps in fighting with acne, pigmentation and other skin problems. You can also use sesame oil which is easily available in any market. After the massage take steam, this process is known as swedan. Put 2-3 drops of Anu Tel in each of your nostrils, the dosage and oil definitely depends on the intention you are taking it for. Be it rhinitus, headache, sinusitis, insomnia or any other health issue, the dosage and the oil will differ. But generally 2-4 drops of Anu Tel are suitable for everyone. After this take a big sniff and rest for 2 minutes and allow the oil to penetrate properly. This was all about Nasya therapy which is both nurturing and nourishing, eliminating various discomforts above the clavicle area. Acharyas have mentioned nasya to be a part of Dinacharya (Dina- Daily Charya- Regimen).
