BAEL FRUIT AND IT’S MAGICAL BENEFITS|

The Bael Fruit in Ayurveda is called Bilva and in medical terms it is known as Aegle Marmelos. It is commonly found in Bengal of South India. Bael tree also has a huge religious significance in Hindu scriptures. Believed as the favorite tree of Lord Shiva, the goodness of this botanical wonder found a special mention in Rig Veda and is also believed as the residence of Goddess Lakshmi for wealth and prosperity. Bilva leaves, fruits form a major part while worshipping Lord Shiva. The Bael fruits are spherical in shape, with a hard exterior and it doesn’t split open even upon ripening. The raw fruits look greenish while the woody exterior turns yellow upon ripening. The ripened fruit gives a yellow colored juice once blended. These fruits are also popular for antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and laxative properties and it has been in use for its medicinal and therapeutic properties.

NUTRITIONAL VALUE:- 

Bael fruits contain various nutrients like protein, riboflavin and vitamin C. It is loaded with vitamin B1 and B2, carotene and possesses good amounts of minerals like calcium, potassium, fiber and good fats. A 100gms of bael contains 31 to 33 gms of carbohydrates, it nearly has 61% of water, the protein fat is in less percentage and it is filled with antioxidants. We get about 137 calories per 100gms. 

BAEL IN AYURVEDA 

Bael or Bilva holds much significance in Ayurveda due to its wide range of benefits. Ancient Ayurvedic scriptures also mention Bael as one of the “Dashamoolas” that is roots having anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. Each and every part of the tree has a therapeutic benefit. The roots of the plant prevent vomiting and nausea. Churna from the leaves of the plant balances the three doshas and is effective in preventing abdominal colic pain, dyspepsia and gastritis. Decoction of the stem or bark of the plant plays a key role in treating heart related ailments, improves digestion and treats rheumatoid arthritis.

BENEFITS:-

In the classical text of Ayurveda, Sushruta Samitha Sutrasthana 46 it is beautifully explained as, 

Kapha nil haram|

Tikshana snigdha sangrahani deepanam||

Katu tikta Kashaya ushna balam|

Bilva udhartam||

This simply means the fruit has Katu (pungent), Tikta (bitter) and Kashaya (astringent) properties. It has Ushna Virya (has hot potency) and Katu Vipaka (pungent metabolic property). It aggravates the Pitta dosha (digestion) and balances Vatta (air) and Kapha (water) doshas.

Bael fruit also has several other benefits like management of diarrhea, good for digestion, reduces cholesterol, helps in diabetes management, blood purification, moisturizes the skin, controls blood pressure, gives hydration to the body and stimulates milk production in the lactating mother. It is very beneficial for disorders related to the sixth dhatu (majja dhatu), brain, spine or for conditions in which nerve involvement is seen like nourishment of the nervous system. Even for sciatica, paralysis and conditions where tingling or numbness is witnessed, one must consume one glass of fresh bael juice to see immediate results. 

CONSUMPTION:-

 The best way of consuming this fruit is in fresh juice form. If fresh bael fruit is not available then one can easily get readymade bael juice from the market. Also bael murabba can be consumed along with our daily meals.
