BENEFITS AND USES OF BEETROOT POWDER|

The beetroot is the taproot portion of a beet plant. Usually the deep purple roots of beets are eaten boiled, roasted, or raw, and either alone or combined with any salad vegetable. A large proportion of the commercial production is processed into boiled and sterilized beets or into pickles. In Eastern Europe, beet soup, such as borscht, is common. In Indian cuisine, chopped, cooked, spiced beet is a common side dish. Beetroot can be roasted, boiled or steamed, peeled, and then eaten warm with or without butter as a delicacy; cooked, pickled, and then eaten cold as a condiment; or peeled, shredded raw, and then eaten as a salad. Pickled beets are a traditional food in many countries. 

NUTRITION :- 

Raw beetroot is 88% water, 10% carbohydrates, 2% protein, and less than 1% fat. It is a rich source of folate and a moderate source of manganese, with other nutrients having insignificant content. Betanin, obtained from the roots, is used industrially as red food colorant, to improve the color and flavor of tomato paste, sauces, desserts, jams and jellies, ice cream, candy, and breakfast cereals, among other applications. The chemical adipic acid rarely occurs in nature, but happens to occur naturally in beetroot.

BENEFITS:- 

Beetroot is a high fiber food hence it is a good laxative. It helps a lot in constipation, bowel correction and improving blood flow. Studies have shown that beets can significantly lower blood pressure after only a few hours of consumption. Both raw beet juice and cooked beets were found to be effective at lowering blood pressure and decreasing inflammation. 

BEETROOT POWDER :- 

If you do not like the taste of beetroot but still want to add it to your diet then beetroot powder is the solution for you. The powder contains a very concentrated amount of beets that can fit into one small spoonful. The beetroot powder is made of dehydrated beets. Once sliced beets are thoroughly dehydrated (all the moisture is gone), then finely ground to make a powder. 

PROCEDURE OF MAKING BEETROOT POWDER:-

Firstly we will wash the beetroot properly and then let it dry. Peel off the skin, cut it into small pieces and keep it in sharp sunlight for two or three days. If there is no proper sunlight then they need to to grate it and keep it for drying as huge pieces will take a longer period of time to dry properly. One can also dry the beetroot by putting it in the microwave by the dehydration method but it is advised that we dry it naturally as this powder is organic. Once dry, put the pieces or grated beetroot into a grinder and churn it into a fine powder. Drain this powder and it will be ready to use. It can be kept for three to five months, if we want to make this powder long lasting then it can be stored in a refrigerator for about a year. 

USES:- 

Beet powder can be mixed with water to create a juice. It can also be added to smoothies, sauces, or baked goods. Beet powder is growing in popularity as a natural health-boosting supplement. People are drawn to beet juice and powder for nutritional reasons, and many people also enjoy the taste. One can also use it as a food color or we can also add it as a color tint to our home – made lip balms. It can be consumed as a nutritional supplement as Dried beetroot powder maintains all its minerals, vitamins and nutrients. Beetroot powder contains primary sugars such as glucose and fructose and can provide a natural little sweetness to some sweet dishes so we can use it instead of other sweeteners. There are also various medicinal uses of this powder, Vitamin C and folic acid are capable of skin cell renewal. They protect the skin, increase its firmness and collagen creation.
